The Discouraging Wife

13 Wives in 13 Days....Wives of the Bible

Wife #2

She faced a lot of trials.

She lost her possessions, her cattle, wealth, home and even her children.  And then her husband fell ill.

This couple lived through some depressing times.

In spite of all their horrendous trials, her husband did his best to follow the Lord.

A Godly man he was, yet, she didn't care too much about that.

So who is she?

She's Job's wife.

The Discouraging Wife

Then she said to her husband...

"Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!"  But he said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?" In all this Job did not sin with his lips.  Job 2:9,10

What Not to Do According to the Life of Job's Wife.....

  • Oh friend, I can't even begin to think about the anguish this mama must have felt when she lost her precious family. However, I do know one thing.  Never give up on following Christ! He is our hope, peace, joy, and strength.  No believer, in ANY circumstance should encourage another to pull away from the One True God.
  • Don't be so earthly minded when living through gut-wrenching storms, instead, turn your eyes towards heaven; your eternal home.  This eternal perspective will soothe not only your soul, but your husband's as well.

There's not a whole lot written on Ms. Job but we can still learn from her mistake.

What to Do...

If you're facing some similar afflictions like Job and his wife try to remember that God has a plan for all that you're enduring.  I know this is not easy and I'm saying this from first hand experience, not just to be compassionate towards you.  I know what it's like to feel like you can't endure much more.  And I know what it's like to feel forsaken by the Lord.  I've lived through many years of heartache as I endured 10 years of chronic ill health and 5 years of financial storms, however, God was and is always with us.  I've seen His mighty hand time and time again in my life. You'll see it in your life too.  Look for Him to show up because He will.

God knew that Job was going to sing praises to His name regardless of what the Lord took him through.  He's doing the same with you too, my friend.  Be a faithful, God-fearing wife and cling to Christ.

The testimony of Job's faithfulness has encouraged and ministered to countless saints throughout the ages.  Be a willing vessel and let God use your testimony to minister to others as well.

Challenge for Today

Affirm your husband.  Let your man know you're proud of him and you'll continue to stand by his side in the midst of adversity, afflictions, heartache, and pain.
