The Wife of Influence

13 Wives in 13 Days....Wives of the Bible Series

Wife #1

She frustrates me to no end.

I know no one is perfect, but come on now, when was the last time you took counsel from a.....

Snake!  Really, a snake?

This woman needs no introduction because we all know she is Eve.

She's THE woman who caused the fall of mankind because she was deceived.

But the LORD God warned him, "You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden—except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die." Genesis 2:16,17

She's a wife of influence.

The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the LORD God had made. One day he asked the woman, "Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?"  "Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden," the woman replied.  "It's only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, 'You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.'" "You won't die!" the serpent replied to the woman.  "God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil."  The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too.  Genesis 3:1-6

Eve was deceived, Adam wasn't.  Adam was influenced!  There's a big difference between the two. Can you see how we, as wives, have great influence over our husbands?  Think about it. Adam and Eve walked with God, the Source of Wisdom daily.  Yet, the man still heeded the words of his wife!

The man said, "The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it."  Genesis 3:12

Then the LORD God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?" The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate."  Genesis 3:13

Now don't even get me started on Adam because in my book, I deem him as a weak-minded man. Eve handed him the fruit and he ate it.  Crunch!

Adam, what were you thinking?  Why did you eat it?  You weren't deceived, you knew better!

Adam was enticed by his wife's naked body and batting eyelashes!  And, a happy wife, makes a happy life!  Yep, that woman had her man wrapped around her little finger.  We all know women can lure their men into doing just about anything!  Think about what you can get your man to do if you walked around the house naked all day long.

What Not to Do According to Eve's Life...

  • Don't be so naive to think you won't be deceived, because we women will be.  So get used to this concept!  The Enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy and he'd be oh, so happy to take you out of the game.  Remember, we're in a spiritual battle.  Be on guard and allow your husband to protect you! Sometimes our men can understand things better than we can.  If you struggle in this area, pray for the Lord to help you get over your pride.
  • Don't manipulate your man to get what you want.  Your self-centered ways can have a negative impact on others.
  • Don't use your influence for your gain, rather, use it to bring glory to the Lord.
  • Don't listen to snakes, ever!

But wait, there's some good that we can glean from Eve's example.  We see in this story just how much influence we have over our husbands, so much so, that our men can wander from what's right in the sight of God.  Or we can influence them for good!

A Godly wife may not be the head of the home, but she has influence over the one who is!

You have tremendous power in the life of your husband, my friend.  Use your influence to please the Lord and He'll honor you.  As a result of your righteous living, your husband will be drawn to your loyalty, respect, integrity, and of course your naked body! (wink) Your marriage will grow stronger as a result of all these things.

Challenge for Today

Through your words and/or actions, draw your man closer to you and Christ.  This can be something as simple as making his favorite meal (with no strings attached!) or complimenting him on his leadership in the home, or telling him you'd marry him all over again!  Come on girlfriend, use that influence of yours!

Let me know how it goes.  It'd love to hear your story!

Tomorrow we'll look at The Discouraging Wife.

  1. Awesome post. I'd still like to kick Eve for listening to a snake and causing us so much trouble. But I will take the power of influence and use it for God's glory and honor. Thanks for the awesome post. Can't wait til tomorrow.
